Learn & Lead: Beyond PTSD and TBI

Understanding the Hidden Battles We Don’t Talk About

Moving from survival toward purpose, connection, and engagement.

Many military-connected individuals and first responders struggle with loneliness, disconnection, and a diminished sense of purpose even after acute stress has passed. These experiences often go unrecognized, yet they deeply affect long-term well-being.

This Learn & Lead session explores emerging research on loneliness, meaning-making, and social connection as pathways to healing. The focus is on restoring hope, resilience, and engagement with life, not just coping.

Join us for a research-informed presentation followed by time to connect with others in the Mission43 community, led by Troy Nickels, research psychologist and Director of Research and Quality at Summit Hyperbarics and Wellness.

Key topics include:

  • Loneliness and disconnection in military-connected communities

  • Meaning, purpose, and engagement as drivers of healing

  • Research-backed strategies to support recovery and resilience

Community Partner Event: Aaron Butler Memorial Purple Heart Run

Mission43 is proud to promote this Aaron Butler Memorial Foundation event to our community of veteran and military spouses. The ABMF is chartered to honor the fallen, engage communities throughout our Nation in meaningful social action events, and close the gap between the Nation’s populace and the warfighting minority.

This year marks the running of the 7th annual Aaron Butler Memorial Purple Heart Run (ABMPHR) which will be held on Saturday, August 16th, 2025 at the Eagle Island State Park and surrounding trail system. Sign up, show up, and embrace the suck in the 5K, 10K, or signature Unknown Distance Run (they guarantee no less than 400M and no more than 50K, you won't know the final distance until you finish.) Don't forget about the 16-and-under Youth 5K…ABMF cares deeply about youth leadership development and believe that it begins with exposure to service and sacrifice.

It's more than a run, it's an emotional and educational experience.

Task Force Mission43: Idaho Veterans Wreaths

Bundle up Task Force Mission43! The inaugural Idaho Veterans Wreath Laying Ceremony needs volunteers to be part of the 10am opening ceremony and wreath laying on headstones throughout the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery. Mission43’s Dan Nelson will be the keynote guest speaker.

The new Idaho Veterans Wreaths program honors the service and sacrifice of our Nation's heroes by placing wreaths on their graves and promoting a sense of remembrance and gratitude within our community. Importantly, the Idaho Veterans Wreaths program will keep all fundraising revenue in Idaho to provide tangible support to our living veterans and their families facing hardships.

No registration is required. For more information please visit: https://www.idahoveteranswreaths.org/event-details/wreath-laying-ceremony
